Mission: To elevate the practice of yoga by offering peak-performance Korq mats that embrace a more environmental and socially conscious perspective of the world by using sustainable materials and processes.
The practice of yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise. It is about "union", as the Sanskrit word "yoga" in itself signifies, union with the body, the soul, the breath, the mind and all that we come into contact with in our visceral existence as human beings.
Korq™ founder and creator Martin Murphy originally took up yoga for its physical benefits. Through rigorous and disciplined practice with qualified teachers, Martin quickly experienced and began to understand the importance of this sense of yogic "union" with a larger consciousness. He never dreamed yoga would lead him down this path as a manufacturer and businessman with a mission to make the practice of yoga his life. However, as his practice intensified, he began to reap all the benefits that a consistent and rigorous yoga routine bestows. His personal awareness and sense of place grew and moved toward a respect for the larger, environmental and spiritual roots of the ancient yogic lifestyle. His vision of an earth-friendly mat became a key goal in his wish to improve and share the benefits that a genuine and traditional yoga practice entails, by positioning himself not just as a proponent of yoga, but as an advocate for "greening" the practice of yoga, in all its Western variants.
To date in the West, over 90% of the yoga mats are made from PVC plastics — a toxic material whose manufacture creates numerous environmental hazards and will survive for decades in landfills. How could an activity so personally enriching use a product that was so harmful? Martin, a person who had always had the vision to see alternative solutions, began to envision a way to make a mat better — not just the way it interacted with the user, but the way it interacted with the Earth.
And so Korq Yoga was born, an idea at first but one that's destined to spur a transformation. Martin believes that as more people begin to embrace the principles and philosophy that are so central to yoga, more people will begin to understand that Korq is the future.
